Environment is stronger than Willpower

And I don’t mean the politicians

ENVIRONMENT is stronger than WILLPOWER | Curious Pavel

Check this out…

You’ve probably heard of the following expressions before:

Show me your friends and I will tell you who you are

Show me your friends and I’ll tell you your future

And probably the most popular one:

You’re The Average Of The Five People You Spend The Most Time With

These expressions are one of those things that are true… but at the same time, they are wrong.

Curious, isn’t it?

Here’s what I mean

I’ve come to a realization that Environment is stronger than willpower.

Meaning that if you are strong enough to quit smoking, it will be very hard to do so if you hang around smokers all the time.

Environment is stronger than willpower.

What I’m about to tell you doesn’t apply only to how much money you make or your chances of becoming a smoker. It also affects other aspects of your life, including your happiness.

So here’s what scientists say:

Research shows that if one of your friends becomes obese, you are 45 percent more likely to gain weight over the next two to four years.

Wow! 45% chance! That’s a huge number!

So you should be really careful who you hang around.

But not everything might be in your hands!

If a friend of your friend becomes obese, your likelihood of gaining weight increases by about 20 percent — even if you don’t know that friend of a friend.

So it not only matters how you pick your circle, but you should also have a looksie on your friend’s circle.

But wait, there’s more!

The effect continues one more person out. If a friend of a friend of your friend develops obesity, you are still 10 percent more likely than a random chance to gain weight as well.

Basically, not only do your friends make you fat, but so do their friends, and so do their friends of friends.

This example is with obesity but all this easily applies to smoking, drinking, negativity, stealing, and everything else you can imagine.

But that, actually, is the beauty of it

As this applies to all negative qualities, it easily applies to all positive ones

So if you hang around positive people

Who hang around other positive people

You will easily get positive vibes

And here’s another perspective

If you are a positive person

Who spreads positivity and good vibes

You are impacting way more lives than you can imagine

All these sayings I mentioned at the beginning about pivot and conflict avoidance, are true. The 5–6 people around you are crucial to your life.

What’s wrong here is the fact that way more than 5 people are involved in this.

Environment is stronger than willpower!
