Changing of the Guards is an event that can be seen in Windsor but the one I’m gonna talk about, is the one that takes place in front of Buckingham Palace.
What is happening?
The new guards (the ones that need to come on duty) march together with a band to the Palace. Under the music played by the band, which sometimes can be Thriller by Michael Jackson or even Game of Thrones Theme Song (no joke!), the guards that were watching for the security of Buckingham Palace pass this responsibility to the guards that just arrived. After that the band and the “old” guards leave.
The Changing of the Guards in front of Buckingham Palace gathers mass amount of people even if the weather is not pleasant. In order your stay to be pleasant, make sure you come earlier, take some extra clothing, water and snacks, charge the batteries of your phone and camera and go to the toilet before you start lining up.
But where to line up?
On the picture above you see the Buckingham Palace from bird’s eyes. The red line represented the usual way of the new guards and the band on their way to the Palace. However, there can always be surprises like the time we went to film the event. The first X from left to right marks the place where the changing is happening, the third is where Deso, my cameraman was watching the event from and the first X on the right marks my spot. The second X was “taken” by David (@FirstWorldTraveller) who joined us for this video.
